Cursus: a method for improving business results

Cursus starts where performance is most exposed – the workflows that carry your critical outcomes. We use evidence to show how work really flows, where friction appears, where control is weak, and what to change first. Then we help you redesign those conditions so your organisation works well under pressure, not just on paper.

Who is it for?

Senior leaders, particularly CEOs and Chairs, in organisations where:

Strategy is sound on paper but execution is uneven, slow or fragile

Investments in people and technology are producing activity but not the expected results

Decisions keep being pushed up the line because the people responsible for doing the work aren’t sure what they are allowed to decide

The leadership team can sense that the issue is not the technology

From symptoms to causes. Most effort goes into visible symptoms - meetings, pace, morale, AI that hasn’t delivered. The question to keep asking is: Why?

From functional efficiency to how work really gets done. Functional efficiency gains don’t automatically improve business results. Performance is decided in the work that crosses functions - where decisions are made, handed over, and often pushed up the line

From technology-led change to starting with the work itself. Instead of starting with tools, start with the work itself

Three principles that shape a Cursus assignment

The shape of the method

Cursus works through five sequential stages, applied to a critical workflow - the work that either carries the strategy or generates most of the value. The aim is a workflow designed to perform reliably under real pressure, with only the conditions that genuinely need to be in place

Choose the workflow that matters most right now

Clarify and make roles, judgement points, escalation and safeguarding responsibilities explicit

Design how the workflow moves across people, channels, information and systems

Align leadership expectations, measures, routines and support to the new design

Embed - test, review and stabilise the new way of working under real conditions

What you get:

A working example of what good looks like inside your own organisation - not a case study from elsewhere

A clear view of where your AI investment is - and is not - producing value

A workflow with named decision owners, designed guardrails, and measurable improvement in speed, decision quality, error rate or cost

A practical basis for extending the work to the next workflow

Each stage is supported by practical tools and evidence

How a Cursus assignment is structured

First conversation - a short discussion to look at one or two of the workflows that deliver your strategy and value. The purpose is to leave you with a clearer view of whether further work is warranted

Diagnose the workflows that carry your strategy, the decision architecture around them, and the system conditions that determine whether AI has a place and what that place is

Redesign one critical workflow end-to-end decision rights, guardrails, escalation rules, human judgement, and the role of AI all designed deliberately

Embed the leadership routines, governance and learning loops that keep the design resilient under pressure and that prepare the ground for the next workflow

How this differs from what is usually offered

One critical workflow, designed properly, generates evidence the rest of the organisation can be pulled toward

The work happens at the level of decisions and system conditions; technology is applied where it earns its place

The assignment is focused: one critical workflow, a defined scope, and usually around 90 days depending on complexity

If this reflects a pressure your organisation is facing, the next step is a short conversation. A structured 45-minute discussion will give you a clearer view of which workflow to look at first and whether a Cursus assignment is warranted.
